UCAN is a youth development organization for under-privileged middle and high school students in the Memphis and Shelby County area. The organization is designed to reach teens in their formative years in order to guide them into becoming a positive leader in their community through mentorship and educational and life skills programming. The goal of this program is to give each teen participant an adult mentor who acts as a positive role model along with providing the teen with guidance and constructive feedback. In addition to the mentorship component of the program, the teens will have the opportunity to learn how to become a leader through image development classes, and career and education seminars. Through caring mentors and exceptional programming, the teen participants will see the value of their life and develop character, experience personal growth, and responsibility in all that they do toward building a “balanced life.”
